PG (2.1)  1. Shannon's Packway Downlander at Erewhon (d) 1yr 8m

A lovely masculine head, no coarseness. Correct bite, fold of ears and soft, dark but also keen eye. Strong neck with reach to fair shoulder assembly and broad flat bone to pasterns, well knuckled feet. Good depth of brisket, spring of rib and good underline and tuck up with fair top line. Coat harsh, could show a little more rise over loins but pleasing fallaway and tail set to muscled thighs and low hocks. Movement lacking a bit of drive but ground rather uneven. Fair steps coming and going and in profile but could be wider behind. Stood naturally without handler intervention. Much to like for the future for this youngster.

A good correct head without coarseness leading to a strong neck with good reach onto a well angled front assembly, depth of brisket with broad flat leg bone and pasterns, feet knuckled. Top line and under line have the right curves with good spring of rib and strength and breadth in the hind quarters. IRISH WOLFHOUNDS

My first judging appointment.  The excitement; the trepidation; the nerves.  A big thank you to the committee for sticking with me as I was first invited to judge here back in 2020.  A very well run show at a lovely venue.  Thank you to all the exhibitors for giving me a chance and being so patient with me and gracious with my decisions.

The quality of entries was good, teeth were not an issue, some beautiful rose ears, a few well muscled hounds in good condition and some with lovely harsh coats.  A few hounds were down on their pasterns with the odd one not tracking up correctly which in turn affected their gait and drive.

I was very pleased my Best of Breed was then shortlisted for Best In Show and my Best Puppy went on to win 3rd Best Puppy In Show.

P (4,1)

1ST      Sheppard - Gaelmarque Treasured by Goldswift

Tall 9 month old bitch but very together for her age.  Ears a tad large but held well to the skull and on a lovely head so they can be forgiven.  Strong arched neck with good shoulder and upper arm placement.  Lovely forechest and brisket moving along to a good tuck up.  Topline showed a slight rise over loin and I expect her curves to improve with age.  Hocks a little long but all in proportion.  Well muscled which in turn produced a fairly co-ordinated enthusiastic forward driven gait for her age.  Went on to win Best Puppy

2nd      Crosse – Rainster Evie

A 6 month old cutie with a gorgeous kind face and gentle expression. Ears a little large and held at some great angles as you would expect for her age but in the main held back correctly.  She had that lovely puppy squishy roll to all of her skin where it hasn’t quite decided where it’s all going to go yet.  Was very good for me to go over and I could feel promise!  Hopefully the puppy coat will drop bringing in a harsher jacket but the current texture was of good quality for her age.  Hocks were again quite long and the front pasterns need encouragement to become as strong as they need to be.  Slightly uncoordinated on the move as you would expect from a youngster but managed a good few quality paces as she went around.  She did very well!

J (no entries)

PG (5,2)

1st       Fox – Newdigate Doris Day (AI)

Substantial 3 year old bitch in good condition, well muscled with a lovely harsh coat, showing strength and symmetry yet still remaining graceful as she moved around the ring tracking up correctly. No fuss with this honest girl.  Lovely rose ears. Well muscled arched neck onto muscular shoulders with nice shoulder placement flowing into a good forechest.  Shapely tuck up but if being picky would prefer more rise over loin.  Well muscled rear with hocks well let down.  Moved with purpose, ease and drive with lovely tail carried low.  My Best of Breed

2nd      Treadwell and Webb – Floydian Syracuse at Foinaven

3.5 year old male with quality harsh coat.  Correct size and overall shape; I would prefer more arch and length of neck.  Skull slightly broad but he carries it all very well and has a lovely kind expression.  Good width of forechest with leg and forearm straight and muscular.  Flowing curves to correctly muscled rear with easy and active movement.  My Reserve Best of Breed and Best Opposite Sex

O (6,2)

1st       Treadwell – Floydian Savanna

A well maintained harsh coated 3.5 year old bitch. Head carried high whilst on the move. I feel her skull is slightly too wide but with lovely dark eyes and a kind friendly nature.  Good muscle to arched neck and good lay back to shoulders with ample forechest and good breadth of chest.  Correct elbows but would prefer lower brisket.  Pleasing tuck up and rise over loin.  Handled well and moved with ease

2nd      Webb – Gaelmarque Mission Success for Inkleyboys

This 2.5 year old male definitely has a lot to offer but has not reached maturity or quite settled into his frame.  Lovely dark eye and correctly carried ears.  Forequarters show muscular shoulders with adequate chest which may improve with age but his rear is at present his best feature. When moving at the correct pace he tracks up very well and shows potential to have great drive.
